Website progress - Illustrating CBE Learning
This week the focus is on illustrating the CBE Learning website with captivating photography. The defining characteristic of the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment is that it places academic learning in a real environment. Students are engaged by understanding the practical applications of what they are learning.
www.cbelearning.com will be using clear and evocative images, which are the most effective way to bring dry concepts vividly to life, and will help in the engagement process - giving students a real understanding of life in construction.
Teachers and students involved in the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment are soon to benefit from the launch of a comprehensive and free website that will provide detailed direction and lesson planning resources and learning support materials.
http://www.cbelearning.com will go live in September 2009. Teachers wanting to keep track of progress and be updated with content can register via cbelearning@wates.co.uk to receive e-mail updates and participate in the blog.
www.cbelearning.com is a Wates Group funded website, designed to support both students and teachers with the Construction and Built Environment (CBE) Diploma curriculum. This educational resource will be free for tutors teaching the diploma at schools and colleges and designed to complement their other teaching materials and bring the construction industry to life. With a go live date of September 2009, the website is due to be rolled out to 386 schools and colleges and 50 consortiums.
Wates Group is one of the largest family owned construction businesses within the industry. The business is committed to ensuring its work within the education sector goes beyond buildings and has been a supporter of the Construction and Built Environment Diploma (CBE) throughout its development and inception.
Recently awarded the Major Contractor of the Year accolade, Wates was established in 1897. It remains privately owned by the Wates Family - employing more than 2,200 people and with a turnover of £1 billion – and works across a range of sectors including education, prisons, affordable housing, retail fit out and refurbishment, office interiors, land development and commercial buildings.
Wates recognised for commitment to the CBE Diploma
Wates Construction was the first company to receive recognition for their commitment in developing the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (C&BE) and has been presented with a Recognition Scheme mark and certificate.
ConstructionSkills, the lead partner in the development of the new C&BE Diploma, together with its Diploma development partners, launched the Recognition Scheme to identify and reward partner businesses on board to deliver the Diploma.
The Recognition Scheme enables supporting companies to showcase their commitment in helping develop tomorrow’s workforce. Firms receive a certificate and a recognition mark that they can use in their marketing material as a badge of pride in their efforts to help young people prepare for a future in work or higher education.

Breaking News: TEACHERS TO BENEFIT FROM DIPLOMA WEBSITE
Delivering the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment is being made a great deal easier thanks to the involvement of leading construction company Wates Group and the launch of an online teaching resource.
Wates has made its own education and training experts available to the colleges developing the Diploma, but the company’s main investment lies in a comprehensive and free website that will, from September, provide detailed direction and lesson planning resources for teachers together with learning support materials for students.
Supported by bodies Edexcel and Construction Skills, the site will help teachers plan and direct course teaching, while also giving students an engaging platform to keep them motivated as they work though an academically stretching curriculum.
Wates is also continuing to give students unparalleled access to live construction sites, industry expertise and technical input from its staff – giving the Diploma its critical element of practical application.
“We have always believed that employers have a responsibility to help educate the workforce of the future,” observes Chris Simpson of Wates. “The Diploma provides the best route so far for 14 –19 year olds to engage with industry and understand the application of what they are learning.”
“What is so great about the Diploma is that it allows students to understand the variety of career paths available to them in this complex industry and to make very informed choices about how they reach their goals.”
www.cbelearning.com will go live in September 2009. Teachers wanting to keep track of progress and be updated with content can register via cbelearning@wates.co.uk to receive e-mail updates and participate in the blog.
