With only a matter of days before the launch of www.cbelearning.com the team at EdComs have been busy making final tweaks to the website, ensuring it is as visually stimulating as it is informative. The website goes live to the public on Wednesday September 9th, ready for the start of the new school year.

Website progress - Computer Aided Design animations

Wates has supplied EdComs with a selection of CAD animations for www.cbelearning.com. There are animations of both completed structures and those in design. CAD is integral to modern construction, and therefore an important aspect of the industry to introduce to students. The animations demonstrate the planning, design, detail and scale involved in building.

The team at EdComs has now completed the Careers Profiles section of www.cbelearning.com. The Careers Profiles section is designed to show students that there’s more to construction than architecture and bricklaying. Some examples of people working in the industry include

- Commercial Trainee
- Production Trainee
- Commercial Management Trainee
- Trainee Design Manager

Profiles of young professionals working with Wates have deliberately been chosen, so as to give students an idea of where they could be once they finish education.

This week it's a case of testing, testing, testing. Key to the success of www.cbelearning.com is its interactivity: to engage the students it must allow them to explore, experiment and progress. The site must be vibrant and interesting - encouraging students to go on and stimulating their curiosity. Teenagers aren't going to hang around, though, so if it doesn't work once, we've lost them. Testing sounds dull - but when you don't do it properly, it shows.

This week the focus is on illustrating the CBE Learning website with captivating photography. The defining characteristic of the Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment is that it places academic learning in a real environment. Students are engaged by understanding the practical applications of what they are learning.

www.cbelearning.com will be using clear and evocative images, which are the most effective way to bring dry concepts vividly to life, and will help in the engagement process - giving students a real understanding of life in construction.

Website progress - The 'Big Game'

With eight weeks to go until www.cbelearning.com goes live, the team at EdComs, our website design partner, is currently developing the ‘big game’ - an interactive feature on the site, where students are tasked with building a school. The game incorporates the briefing, design and functional aspects of the building process, giving students an idea of the different courses of action that are involved in construction. Designed to represent the various aspects of the Diploma, the game allows students to work through the consultation, design and build stages, concluding with a virtual handover of the school.
